A collaboration with BBC award winning Welsh jazz pianist Huw Warren, the new album will debut at a concert in Dublin's Hugh Lane Gallery on October 27th
Critically acclaimed Dublin singer and songwriter, Sue Rynhart, is set to release a new album, ‘Say Pluto’, on October 27th with an intimate concert launch in the Hugh Lane Gallery, Dublin. The album marks a departure towards folk music for Rynhart, who was previously nominated for ‘Best Jazz Album of the Year’ for her 2014 record, Crossings. ‘Say Pluto’ is a collaboration with acclaimed Welsh pianist Huw Warren and double bassist, Dan Bodwell.
Sue Rynhart displays her remarkable and distinctive vocal talent in this profoundly poetic new album, filled with elements of contemporary jazz and folk. Speaking ahead of the release, Rynhart described how the inspiration for the record emerged during a recent residency in Paris:
“I was awarded an artist residency by Music Network and CCI to embark on the creation of my new album in Paris, at the Centre Culturel Irlandais. During the residency, I developed a deep fascination for Gothic short stories. These narratives became a foundational inspiration for my music, allowing me to explore themes of hauntings, witches, isolation, renewal, and empowerment. I have approached these classic tales with a contemporary twist, weaving in themes of gender, nature, and the art of music.”
‘Say Pluto’ is a collaboration with BBC Award winning Welsh pianist Huw Warren who is the collaborator with June Tabor & Ian Ballamy for the music trio Quercus on the ECM label. Music lovers are in for a treat as Warren will be accompanying Rynhart at the forthcoming concert in the Hugh Lane Gallery. Speaking ahead of the concert Warren invited audiences to come and be inspired:
“Collaborating with Sue on this album has been an absolute pleasure. Her distinct vocal style and compositions reflect a wide musical palette, and the resulting performances have the intuitive freedom of jazz whilst referencing the language of classical music, folk music and singer songwriters. I think listeners will find this mix interesting and inspiring.”
‘Say Pluto’ was recorded at Fieldgate Studios, in Penarth, Wales. It features original new compositions by Sue Rynhart including the lilting single, ELM and the haunting new track, Educate. The album also includes new arrangements of traditional folk songs such as the well known lament, Long Years Ago and Lowlands.
The ‘Say Pluto’ launch concert takes place at 12pm on Sunday October 27th in the Hugh Lane Gallery, Dublin. To book tickets visit Hugh Lane Gallery .
The single Elm from the album is available now on all streaming platforms.
